Maidu Regional Park. Enter Park, then jog right/left into parking lot to park and start
Join us for a cup of coffee and treat from Maidu Park in Roseville to Pause Coffee in Loomis. Let‘s get an early start before the heat sets in.
Short Route
*Pause Coffee Loomis 4A https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48311766 33 miles, 1175 ft
Long Route
*Pause Coffee Loomis 4B https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48311778 38.6 miles, 1868 ft
The short route will not be swept. Ride with a buddy if you plan to do the short route.
Ostensibly named after the nearby Tallac Village neighborhood, today‘s destination at 60th St. and 14th Ave. is actually in the Tahoe Park area just to the north. Village Drive In is one of three old-school roadside diners within easy riding distance of Barrio (the others being East Sac‘s Cookie‘s Drive In and Whitey‘s Jolly Kone in old West Sac). All offer similar fare that‘s neither a gourmet nor a particularly healthful throwback to the days when nobody on this side of the Pacific even heard of tofu. In addition to the typical shakes and burgers, it‘s rumored that Village offers some vegetarian options, although I could not confirm this. But who goes there for brussels sprouts anyway? Since the drive in opens at 11, the ride leaves at 10. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45578293
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.
House of Mules, Folsom. (Park and start at the far end of the Dos Coyotes building near the trail.)
Start at 9 AM. The ride is a loop with no mid-point stop, but optional lunch at Dos Coyotes or (?) after the ride. Route: *FRA ER GN 24 Trail, https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36027835, 24 miles, 1200 feet of climbing. In the tradition of Folsom Roundabout, you can ride from House of Mules to the Fish Hatchery and back before or after the core ride and record 31 miles. There is no route sheet for this additional loop. More loops may be added at the discretion of the Ride Leader.
Leave for the Loomis train station and ride through Lincoln to Camp Far West. Return through Sheridan and Lincoln. I will sweep the ride.
*Camp Far West 2A
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38139563
50 Miles and 2088 feet of climbing
It will be cooler today with the high of 82. This in mostly out in the country. There is no place to get anything between Lincoln at mile 9.5 and Sheridan mile 29. Sheridan has a small market and a coffee shop, the Perky Peacock. The coffee shop has a restroom. The next opportunity to recharge is in Lincoln where there are several places.
There is a short option. Meet us a little after 9:00 in Lincoln at the McBean Park, 4th and A. This will skip most of the climbing and about 19 miles.
See you,
Shalako
After heading south to the Freeport bridge and a long haul on the River Road, we‘ll stop by this corner cafe in old Broderick. Typical return through the west end of Land Park. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44764828
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.
The route is similar to the short one plotted by our own beloved Carolyn Lewis. Y‘all know the cafe and the roads so there isn‘t much that needs to be said. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48311977
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.
Northwest corner of the parking lot next to Steady Eddy’s near Railroad Ave. and Abbey St.
This ride goes to the Pure Grain Bakery in downtown Vacaville and returns a different route to Winters for an optional refreshment at Hooby’s Brewing in Winters, ergo the name. Cantelow Rd is open again, so the long route will go in the usual clockwise direction (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41429096). The distance is about 44 miles with 2,000 ft climbing. The short route has not changed and goes around the English Hills in a clockwise direction staying on the lower rollers in the English Hills. It’s 36 miles with about 1000 ft climbing (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41429095). The two routes split at Steiger Hill and Cantelow Rd. The climbs up Cantelow Rd on the long route are up and back to the top from both sides, so you can just turn around if it becomes too difficult. Also, if you want you can do both climbs on Cantelow Rd before the rest stop by continuing on to Pleasant Valley Rd. after climbing the east side and then turn around at the bottom and do the west side.
Broadstone Marketplace, Folsom. Park and start in the lot near, but not at, the AAA office.
A choice of hill training loops from warm up to challenging. All loops start and end in the parking lot, near food and restrooms. Ride any combination of loops in any order.
Weather forecast 5 days out is 70°F at 08:00 and 89°F at 12:00. Due to the loopy nature of this event, you can choose mileage and finishing time/temperature that works for you. The warm up loop typically takes about 55 minutes and is a good one to finish with.
I go slower when it‘s hot.

From Barrio we head to the Yolo Causeway for a visit to Cafe Bernardo in the quaint town of Davis. This is essentially an out-and-back route but with a few detours. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40693422

On this route you *can* have your druthers--Druthers Coffee Shop, that is. This relatively new corner spot in the Sutter Park housing development is small and spartan, but there‘s a bit of patio seating outside and a beautifully landscaped commons-type park across the street with benches. Offerings include the typical coffee selections plus chai, and a very atypical sweet potato waffle in three varieties--plain, peaches & cream and coffee cake--plus occasional seasonal variations such as pear. The route traverses the downtown grid and McKinley Village before looping around the top side of East Sac, and returns via Elmhurst, North Oak Park, Curtis Park and Land Park. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44913264

Casual Ride to Peet‘s in Granite Bay

This ride is all about the *shift*, and I‘m not just talking about gears. For, while I tend to avoid the bike trails, this route takes us out to CSUS where we‘ll shift to the Jed Smith, exiting at the Del Paso crossing and proceeding on the boulevard to our designated stop, Shift Coffee House. We‘ll then proceed on our shifty way back to Jed Smith and into Old Sac, where we‘ll continue on the streets of Land Park to home base. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44811376
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.

Join us for a ride in memory of Bob Keven. In addition to leading the Chester Tour for many years, Bob and Sherri Keven also hosted annual Pie Rides at their home serving fresh baked pies from Bob‘s and Sherri‘s kitchen. Bring a pie to enjoy with others after the ride at the home of Michele Fortes and Mark Munguia in Gold River, not far from the ride start. Details for the address will be provided at the ride start. Pies can be brought to the ride start where they will be picked up and taken to the house.
We will stop just briefly for a restroom and water drink at Bel Air.

El Dorado Trail trailhead
It‘s that time of year to take a scenic ride up to Apple Hill via the El Dorado Trail and enjoy the beautiful fall colors—and of course, reward ourselves with some pie!
The ride begins at the trailhead in El Dorado and continues to Camino. The trail breaks as we pass through busy downtown Placerville.
Once we reach Apple Hill, we‘ll ride a 10-mile loop on rural roads without bike lanes. However, traffic should be light since the ride is on a weekday. The rest stop will be at Boa Vista Farms, where we‘ll enjoy freshly baked pies and other treats.
Ride start location (4500 Oriental St, El Dorado) details: GPS will guide you into El Dorado via Pleasant Valley Road. Turn left onto Oriental Street, across from the post office. Stay left at the Y and follow the gravel road. At the T, turn left into the parking lot.

AKA "Happy Trails to You," this route vectors southeast through Laguna and Elk Grove along both streets and trails, assumes a heading of 270 degrees enroute to the town of Hood, then follows the river north to finally taxi into the parking area at Sac Executive Airport‘s Aviator‘s restaurant. The last leg before the cafe stop is a long stretch on the river‘s east levee road, which is highly unusual for club rides. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44786772
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.

Anyone familiar with Husick‘s Taproom knows that it periodically changes ownership and closes for a time. This happened again earlier this year, and the venue has once again reopened. The new owner has retained the pizza offerings and added appetizers, salads and sandwiches, and even dinner entrees. Most importantly, there‘s still decent beer on draft. This is an easy route of moderate length that travels familiar roads in the Greenhaven/Pocket and Clarksburg areas, and starts relatively late to accommodate Husick‘s opening time of 11. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44796871
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.

Northeast corner of the South Hills Shopping Center near 35th Ave. and South Land Park Dr.
Come join me on this easy flat ride out to Lenise’s Cafe in West Sacramento. All routes will be taking the new Del Rio bike trail down to Freeport. There are short and long gravel and road routes. Both gravel routes get on the levees along the Sacramento River and the deep water channel. These gravel routes are still mostly paved, so gravel or cyclocross bikes are best, but a mountain bike may work if you’re fast.
Gravel, short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794611
Gravel, long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794698
Short and long routes for road bikes are still an option.
Road, short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794778
Road, long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794841
The short and long routes separate after crossing the Freeport Bridge. The short routes turn right on South River Rd and head towards West Sacramento, with the gravel route staying on the levee when it turns to gravel. The long routes turn left on South River Rd. and then right on either Pumphouse Rd. (gravel) or Willow Point Rd. (road) before heading back to West Sacramento. After Lenise’s Cafe the routes separate again with the gravel routes getting on the levee along the deep water channel and the road routes staying on the streets. All the routes come together on South River Rd at the end of Village Parkway and then cross over the Tower Bridge and return through Land Park getting on the north end of the Del Rio bike trail by Riverside Blvd and taking it down to 35th Ave. I will sweep the short gravel route. If you plan to do one of the other routes I recommend that you ride with someone.

East Sac‘s answer to Whitey‘s Jolly Kone is Cookie‘s Drive in, a modest take-out-only joint near CSUS that‘s been serving up fancy burgers and arguably the area‘s best, thickest shakes for 65 years. As with Whitey‘s, Cookie‘s opens at 11, so the ride leaves at 9:30. The route loops through Land Park, Downtown and East Sac before returning via Meadowview and the Pocket. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45671201
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.
