Stop the heat from rushing your ride. Cool off on the return at California’s voted best ice cream Gunther’s on Franklin Blvd. (not sure who conducted the poll - but a club member told me.). They also serve food.

Ride is D- 28.3 miles with 310 feet elevation gain and is designed to arrive at the ice cream parlor when they open at 11 am. Return to Scottish Rite is only a few miles from there. The route starts on ARBT, goes thru Old Sac and down the SRBT and meanders through the Pocket and pedals thru Land Park and Sac City then Curtis Park and Oak Park and East Sacramento. If you haven’t ridden thru Charlie Jensen Park then you haven’t cycled on undoubtably city’s shortest bike trail, 14th Street off S Land Park Avenue.

Club name : *Gunther’s-2A (longer route)

The short route stays on the rollers in Loomis basin and is 35 miles with ~1200 ft climbing (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40455213). The long route does both climbs on Sierra College and then the hills on English Colony Way all the way to Taylor Rd. It's almost 40 miles with nearly 2000 ft climbing (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40455205). Both routes are the same after the rest stop. I will sweep the short route.

We've cleaned mile 3N many times in the past; this year we requested and got mile 12N, which is also the mile the club financially sponsors. T-shirts, gloves, water and pizza will be provided. It is recomended we NOT ride our bikes to the clean up spot because bike parking isn't secure. Car parking is available in the parking lot south of the bike trail at the Harrington access to the trail and the river. Public restrooms are available in the parking lot. The ARPF Ride the Parkway is an annual event run by the American River Parkway Foundation (ARPF) to raise funds to support our trail. As we are very frequent users of our beautiful bike trail, our club supports this ride each year. We provide sponsorship as a club and also participate as members in the largest registered team competition. We have won this hotly contested competition twice in a row.

Proceeds raised from this event will be placed towards the Parkway Foundation’s Fire Safe Council. The Council’s goal is to mitigate fire danger on the Parkway and protect natural habitat, infrastructure that reside on the Parkway and surrounding homes and businesses from fire. With the increase in fires along the American River Parkway, this program needs the ARPF's immediate attention and help

Registration

Until September 1, the registration fee is reduced by $20, so do not wait until later to register. Please also ensure that you indicate that you are a Sacramento Bikehiker to ensure that your registration is counted towards the team competition.

The link to the website for more details and registration:

Ride the Parkway | American River Parkway Foundation (arpf.org)

Please note this is an event and not a regular club ride. You must register in order to participate in the event and get club miles.

Your registration includes rest stops and at the end of the ride a BBQ and music, both of which have historically been excellent. They typically also have drawings for great prizes.
