Come join me on this easy flat ride out to Lenise’s Cafe in West Sacramento. There are now two variations of the short and long routes with gravel or dirt sections.
Gravel, short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42832927
Gravel, long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42832943
If you want to do one of these gravel routes be sure to bring your gravel or cyclocross bike. These routes are still mostly paved, so a mountain bike may not be ideal since you'll probably be slower on the paved parts compared to the other riders on gravel or cyclocross bikes. The original short and long routes for road bikes are still an option.
Road, short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42845511
Road, long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42845523
All routes head down to Freeport from South Land Park and then separate after crossing the Freeport Bridge. The short routes turn right on South River Rd and head towards West Sacramento, with the gravel route staying on the levee when it turns to gravel. The long routes turn left on South River Rd. and then right on either Pumphouse Rd. (gravel) or Willow Point Rd. (road) before heading back to West Sacramento. The return on all routes is the same, coming back by way of the Tower Bridge and a scenic loop through Land Park. RWGPS links:
I will sweep the short gravel route. If you plan to do one of the other routes I recommend that you ride with someone.
