Community Support

The Sacramento Bike Hikers provide financial and volunteering support to many local cycling-related organizations. Please click on the organization name or event name to get more information about their goals and activities.

Sacramento Children's Home

The Sacramento Bike Hikers have donated bikes, helmets, and locks to the Sacramento Children's Home for boys currently in residence at the Sutterville Road location. Club members pick up the bikes at the Sutterville Bicycle Company, where the bikes were purchased, assembled and readied for delivered to the Home by Jeff Dzurinko, Owner and Operator and his dedicated staff.

Eppies Great Race/Great American Triathlon

For many years the Bike Hikers have provided bike hand off and parking management for Eppies Great Race and now the Great American Triathlon. The proceeds from these events are donated to several local charities including the American River Parkway Foundation.

American River Parkway Foundation

Each year the Club sponsors the American River Parkway Foundation's (ARPF) "Ride the Parkway" event that benefits the American River Parkway. We encourage our members to participate and show the club colors by wearing their jerseys on the ride. This is always a great event supporting the Parkway, and of course there is the great BBQ for participants following the ride.

We also have been long-time supporters of the Great American River Clean-up sponsored by the American River Parkway Foundation (ARPF). A club member is a cleanup site captain and responsible for organizing volunteers and reporting statistics to the ARPF. We meet at a designated location along the American River and spend a morning cleaning up trash and debris.

American River Bike Patrol

The American River Bike Patrol was founded in 2020 and several members of the club are Bike Patrollers. The Bike Patrollers of the all-volunteer American River Bike Patrol provide emergency bike repair, first aid and trail safety along the 32-mile Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail within the American River Parkway.

Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen

The Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen (SBK) is a community-centered bicycle shop serving the residents of Sacramento. The organization was formed in order to promote cycling as a low-cost, alternative form of transportation and to enable self-sufficiency through knowledge of bicycle maintenance. To this end, they provide the space, tools, and staff necessary to help patrons learn how to perform any bicycle repair need they may have. SBK also promotes bicycle safety through education and classes.

Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates

SABA is a non-profit organization dedicated to making our region a safer, healthier, and friendlier place to ride a bike. They turn community events into bikeable destinations through their bike valet program, provide free maintenance checks and simple repairs through their Ride Ready Repair program, repair and rehome used bikes through the UPcycle program, provide lights for bicycle safety at night through Lights On and provide skills training to teach the basics of bicycling safely and confidently.

US Bicycling Hall of Fame

The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, located in Davis, CA, is dedicated to recognizing American competitive cyclists and to preserve the history of American cycling in order to educate people about the past and encourage them to participate in the future of the sport. Encouraging all levels of cycling, the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame promotes cycling development and fitness.

Bike Campaign

The Bike Campaign, along with its counterpart, The Bike Garage, was founded in 2011 to help educate people about bicycling and encourage more people to ride their bikes. They are located in Davis, CA and their mission is to reduce car trips to school and workplaces while increasing biking joy and safety. They have two programs: 1) Cycling Without Age which is a volunteer program that brings cycling joy to seniors, people with disabilities and others who are unable to ride a bike on their own and 2) Bike Skills Training at Local Elementary Schools where they teach kids to ride bikes in a safe, supportive and fun environment in order to make them life-long riders. They also provide free bike repair and quality used bikes for sale through The Bike Garage.

Friends of the Folsom Parkways

The Friends is a non-profit organization created over 30 years ago in 1991 to serve as a steward of the parkways in Folsom. Over the years the Friends has provided assistance in determining areas to be included in the parkway system, financial assistance to improve the parkway, and worked with over 2,000 volunteers planting trees, building bridges, removing invasive plants, and other beautification efforts.

Save the American River Association

Save the American River Association (SARA) was founded in 1961 to spearhead the establishment of the American River Parkway — the "crown jewel" of the Sacramento County Park System. Our mission is to protect and enhance the wildlife habitat, fishery, and recreational resources of the American River Parkway to ensure that the American River Parkway will survive and prosper for the benefit of future generations.

Boys 4 Bikes

Boys 4 Bikes was started by a group of third graders a decade ago. Over the years, the boys have raised more than $60,000 through their bake sales and other efforts and have donated over 500 bikes. Boys 4 Bikes donates bikes to foster youth, refugees and other underprivileged youth. Two organizations — Stanford Sierra Youth and Stanford Settlement — have each received about 200 bicycles from Boys 4 Bikes. A significant number of bikes go to older youths who need them either to go to school or to a job.

California Mobility Fund (CalBike)

In 1994, a group of everyday bicyclists founded the California Bicycle Coalition (CalBike) to empower Californians who wanted more bicycle-friendly communities. They worked with political and community leaders to win more funding for bicycle infrastructure and education. In 1999, CalBike incorporated its sister organization, the California Bicycle Coalition Education Fund, to focus on charitable work supported by tax-deductible donations. In 2022, they renamed the California Bicycle Coalition Education Fund the California Mobility Fund, to better reflect their work to create social change that will protect our planet and build healthy, just communities.

City of Roseville Bikefest

Bikefest is the City of Roseville’s annual free bike safety event sponsored by PedalSafe. Activities include bike obstacle courses, riding demonstrations, helmet fittings, and free bicycle safety checks from local bike shops. The Club is one of the sponsors for this event.
