Social Events

The Bike Hikers sponsor a number of social events for members each year. Our primary events are described below.  These events are also listed on our Event Calendar on the Home page along with contact information for each Event Committee Chairperson.

Each February we host an Awards Banquet to recognize members who have contributed to the club during the year.

Each Committee Chairperson receives a recognition award for their work. In addition, each member who rides 500 miles or more with the club receives a tee shirt recognizing their effort (shirts are awarded in 500 mile increments). We also recognize the top three women and top three men club mileage earners, as well as top three "Animal Mile Riders" for men and women.

Spring Blitz

Each March its time to dust off the bikes and get back in shape after winter. To encourage members to "get their riding legs back" and to give back to the community, members sign up for Spring Blitz and track all their riding miles, whether or not they ride with the club. At the end of the month they submit their miles and the club makes a monetary donation to the American River Parkway Foundation based on miles ridden. Members who have paid the registration fee are then treated to a celebration dinner at a local restaurant.

Summer Picnic

Each July the club hosts a ride that ends in William Pond Park. Immediately following the ride members are treated to a BBQ picnic hosted by the club.

We sponsor a jersey exchange during the picnic where members can bring a slightly used jersey and exchange it for another. A small $5 fee is charged for members opting to select a jersey without an exchange.

Every other year members present at the picnic vote to select the jersey design for the Party Pardee ride.

Holiday Party

In lieu of our December Club meeting we hold a holiday party where members mingle and Eat, Drink and Be Merry.

Great American River Clean-up

We also have been long-time supporters of the Great American River Clean-up organized by the American River Parkway Foundation. We meet at a designated "mile marker" along the American River bike trail and spend a few hours cleaning up trash and debris. Supplies are provided by the Foundation and the club provides lunch to all the club volunteers.

Ride the Parkway

Each year the club sponsors the American River Parkway Foundation's "Ride the Parkway" event. We encourage our members to register and show our club colors by wearing their jerseys on the ride. This is always a great event supporting the Parkway and of course there is the great BBQ for participants following the ride.
